Having My New Website Built

July 03rd, 2009

Introduction

The term ‘Web Design’ creates a lot of confusion and misunderstanding. The word design suggests graphics and layout so many people think that’s what designing a website is all about. Most people think that website design is very simple, all you need to do is install the company logo, add the relevant wording, decide on the arrangement of the pages and that’s it.

Well I am about to amaze you by outlining the many complicated processes involved in web design. Think of it this way; when an architect designs a house all we see is the way he lays out the rooms, how the available space is arranged. We normally do not concern ourselves with the amount of technical detail that goes into the design. The architect has to work out the stresses on the walls and the weight of the roof. If there are fireplaces he has to know about draughts and the shape of chimney for it to do the job. He has to plan heating systems, plumbing systems, drainage and sewage, what type of windows to use, door fittings and many other details so that when it’s finally complete the overall effect is pleasing and suitable for the purpose intended. Web design is similar. A customer may have an idea of the layout of the website but will need the services of the Web Designer to make it all happen.

Stages in the Process

There are many items to be decided on before even starting to build a website. Some of the important questions to consider are:

  • Who will be the target audience?
  • What is to be the purpose of the website?
  • Do you want it to be found by the search engines?
  • What is the domain name for the site?
  • What links need to be in place?
  • What type of graphics do you want to use?
  • Do you want to include photographs?
  • Do you want a system of monitoring visitors to the website?
  • Once the webmaster has the answers to these questions then she can start the process of designing the site to give you what you want.

    Target Audience

What sort of people are going to use the new website? Are your customers likely to be businesses, sales people, home owners, parents, teenagers or children and so on?

    Objectives of the Website

Is the website to be used to sell products on line, or to market your business to get leads for new customers? Maybe you wanted it to be an online brochure to showcase your products. Balloons for trade have a website for resellers only so that they can look up the products before placing an order. Because there is no selling on line there are no contact details on the site. You may want to use the website to foster a community to be in contact with other like minded people. You would need a design that incorporates a chat rooms and online discussions.

    Being found on the Web

Before starting a Nottingham web design site one thing to think about is how you want your website to be found on the web. This involves a whole process of establishing keywords for your products or services. The first step is a search of key words in the industry. Finding the best keywords is vital if you want to be in the top ten listed in Google. By using a keyword research tool you can find the single most popular keyword; the one everyone puts in. For example people looking for a vacuum cleaner might type in Hoover although this is in fact a brand name.

    Domain Names

Domain names can be the hardest part of setting up your website, because nearly every name you come up with will most certainly have been registered already. By far the most popular are domain names ending in .com as they are internationally recognised. For that reason alone the majority of shorter names will already have been registered.
Choosing names with endings such as .net; .co.uk .org .info may provide you with the domain name of your preference. When choosing your domain name it is a good idea to include one or more of your keywords. Although the name of your business may be the obvious choice for a Domain Name, it is not necessarily the only option.

So as you can see choosing domain names and keywords right at the beginning of the process will determine how the site is constructed so that it is suitable for the purpose required.

A brand new domain name space has just been created.

Companies can now apply for their name in this brand new .tel name space and it is intended to replace the telephone directory. When the domain name is viewed in your web browser it will provide the companies details and telephone number.

    Creating a Site Map

It is very important to have a site map to outline the pages on your website, e-commerce website or forum space. It shows the design and flow through the website so that when selling on line, items work in order such as; adding product to basket, entering delivery and billing address and on to making credit card payment. The site map helps to identify how user friendly the website is so that there are no difficulties in getting onto the site. Often the user name and password are set for the customer so there is no hindrance to achieving the initial purchase.

Non e-commerce sites are easier because it is possible to receive enquiries by email, without publishing the email address on the website. By using a contact form you will avoid junk mail and also validate the information before you receive it. The aim is to create a balance between discouraging junk mail, and making it easy for the enquirer to use the site.

    Links

An important consideration when designing a website are links. These can be links to other pages of content within your website, and links within the content of your website in the text, as well as links from the menu. Consideration has to be given to whether the links will open in a separate window so you still have your original page open or will the new window replace the previous one.

    The Copy

The copy is the words and visuals you want on your website. Having made decisions about the target market and relevant links, along with the keywords and using the site map information, the next stage is to decide what imagery you want displayed. A picture speaks a thousand words and remains in people’s memory far longer than just words. So images are important to reach your audience. Each image needs a caption which is the ‘most read’ words on the page after the title. The caption of an image need to be clickable so that when you click on a picture it takes you to the next stage of the sales process.

    Design

The final design of the website is often the most challenging stage of the process because it’s subjective. In a large corporation, many people from various departments will have an input for their division. Everyone has their own ideas of what they think the site should look like and trying to gain a consensus can be a nightmare because not everybody will agree on the same things.

If you are setting up an ecommerce web design project just for yourself then you will probably have a clear idea of what you want to see on the site.

Even then unless your ideas are workable in the medium, you may have difficulty getting something you like. Firstly to achieve a good design it is recommended you review other websites and find out what you like or dislike about them. Look at competitor’s websites to make sure your design will be an improvement on what is already in the market place.

Once you have done that you will need to create a design brief. The design brief should have a reference to the logo and any existing brand guidelines, colour schemes and fonts adding in any other relevant information.

Having done a design brief look for a suitable graphic designer. Choose your designer carefully, finding one who designs specifically for screen and the web to achieve the very best results. Beware of choosing a graphic designer who designs for different discipline such as print as they are very different processes. Look at other works the designer has done and decide whether or not you like their style.

Using multiple graphic designers is the best option if you are working in the big time and budget allows. Give each designer the same brief and request three concept designs from each one. The client might also do a design, even if it’s a scribble on the back of an envelope, there will then be ten concept designs. Get everyone together and choose the preferred elements from each design. Once the items you want are selected choose one graphic designer to workup the final artwork.

All parties need to agree on the final artwork before construction of the site begins. Consideration should be give to the fonts used for the titles and buttons etc. Fonts have to be licensed so if the designer has not supplied something then the developer will need a copy of the fonts to achieve the task. Professional graphic designers will usually provide the artworks in a layered Photoshop file so if titles are not going to be in plain text get the designer to also supply the fonts.

    Production

At last all the preparation has been done and the site is ready to go into production. This is where it gets technical! You may not want to go into the detail in which case leave it to your Web Master to choose for you. There have to be decisions about what language to use, either Unix or Windows based, to build the website. Each have advantages and disadvantages with multiple variants but sites such as Ebay, Facebook, Google as well as other well known websites are built on Unix. Your website has to be built with the development language of your web host provider so that they are compatible.

    Accessiblity and Compliance

These are current standards for website development to insure that disabled users, such as the visually impaired, can still access all sections of the website.

    Development

Development of the website is best done on the web server where the site will reside. Those involved in reviewing the work can then monitor work in progress and provide comments throughout the development.

    Unforeseen Items

As the site building gets under way the customer suddenly thinks of something they must have. No matter how well the web master prepares and asks the client the right questions, there are always some last minute adjustments to the programme. The main aim is to minimise last minute additions because they aren’t calculated in and will generate extra costs and cause delays to the date of the website going live.

    Going live

At last your site is up and running and you see the results of all the preparation that has gone into the whole process. There is no substitute for real world testing so as soon as the site is live ask your friends and colleagues to view the website from their own computers and give comments.

    Marketing

Once the site is up and running it’s time to turn your attention to promoting your products by submitting the site to the search engines, writing articles, and press releases and generating links from forums, blogs and other social networking spaces.

    Reporting and Monitoring

There is immense value in collecting stats from your new web design to see if the new design is a success.

Use a reliable statistics package such as Google Analytics or Web-Stat.com to collect and review website visitor data. All you will need is a small block of code inserted into each web page on your site to collect visitor information to help you assess the success of your products in near real time. Web-stat.com also monitors the website and alerts you by email and text message if the site goes down.

    Conclusion

The title ‘Web Design’ is a bit misleading in that people often assume it means the graphic design on the home page and the branding of the product. Unless you are a computer expert, most people do not realise the amount of work that goes into designing and building of a website. Clients are not aware of the amount of complex technical work necessary to build the systems that support what they want the website to do. In such a complex process anything that gets tacked on at the end will end up incurring more cost to your budget.

The depth of initial questioning is an indicator of how competent your Web Master will be. Every aspect of the construction has to be decided upon before you even start the design. These things may sound very technical to us non techies but it is essential for the Web Master to find out exactly what is required so that everything can be costed accurately and built into the design from the beginning.

Finalizing the Structured Settlement Deal takes Months

    July 02nd, 2009

If you wish cash for structured settlements right away, you must know that finalizing the deal and really getting your structured payments could take a little time. In numerous instances, it will certainly take 60 to 90 days to really have your cash delivered.

To be perfectly fair, the customary holdup is actually on the governmental side of the paper chase. With the insurance company and the buyer of your settlement, you can probably settle a deal in nearly a week. Yet, the paperwork is passed on off to an attorney who will lead it through a series of government procedures where the time lag is mostly evident.

The time lag is made by the approval processes that are to be adopted. By setting a timeline of getting you cash for structured settlements with 2 to 3 months of margin, you would not be surprised by the regular delay.

Obviously, the structured settlement was originally planned to be in your best sake. The government only requires making certain the system is beneficial for your financial transactions. So everything you do with the possible buyer must be licensed before it can happen.

Waiting for government or court favorable reception unremarkably accounts for 75% to 90% of the hold time. Yet, you must not demerit the courts or government agencies. Releasing your structured settlement payments into cash is an important decision.

You will be forfeiting tax-free income in substitution for a one-time cash payment. The only advantage of such sale is that you receive a large single payment if you badly need one. As always, before you decide on this major financial decision, seek competent legal advice.

Structured Insurance Settlements is a site dedicated to learning How to Purchase Structured Insurance Settlements Safely and get the best offer possible plus make sure you are dealing with financially stable company.

Get more tips to learn deals with structured settlement. Start your research as well with how to sell structured settlement here with this blog.

How Different Artists Like Rolf Harris Have MAde A Name For Themselves

    July 01st, 2009

If you are a lover of creative art then you are always on the look out for hip young artists as well as established legends. However, sometimes you find artists that you not only relate to on an artistic level but there is something that goes a lot deeper than this. Sometimes it is down to the personality of the artist for example, as artists like Julius Shulman have had frequent public praise whilst being panned by critics.

Rolf Harris is an artist that is loved by most British families. Mainly this is as a result of his hit songs and TV programmes like Animal Hospital. Rolf Harris is also a legendary painter so much so that he has even been given the honour of painting the Queen. Rolf’s likable personality comes across in everything he does, which is why he is such a successful celebrity. As a result Rolf Harris artist prints have sold very well in the UK.

British painter David Shepherd paints landscapes, steam trains and wildlife. He is a huge steam train enthusiast but is also known for his conservation work. He even started up the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and was awarded an OBE for services to the conservation of wildlife. Many David Shepherd prints raise awareness of conservation problems.

Sylvia Ji is a unique young artist from San Francisco. Sylvia Ji prints and paintings can be provocative and frequently use Mexican themes and styles that would not seem out of place in a tattoo parlour. Unlike other artists Sylvia Ji has embraced the use of new social sites like Facebook to market herself and her paintings. This has made her seem increasingly popular, as fans can talk to her and relate to her on a more personal level.

    Outdoor Exercise Can Be Fun!

    July 01st, 2009

It is no secret that the human body requires exercise. So we go to the gym in an effort to ward off weight gain and make our extra pounds disappear. But for some of us, working out in the gym or indoors in general is pure torture. Some people prefer outdoor exercise over indoor exercise because they love being outdoors, especially in nature. In fact, outdoor exercise has other benefits besides just giving us a chance to run around. Being out in the fresh air and sunshine is great for us. Muskelaufbau

If you think you want to get more outdoor exercise than you do, you should see a doctor before you start anything new. Some things, such as running on hard asphalt or concrete, can hurt your joints. If you already have joint problems, for example, you will need your doctor’s okay before you go outside and hit the pavement. Running can cause all sorts of problems in your legs, knees, hips, and feet. But for those who can withstand the impact, it is a great exercise.

Walking is a relatively gentle form of outdoor exercise. If you speed walk you can burn a lot of calories and it does not hurt your joints in the same way that running does. And, everyone knows how to walk because we’ve been doing it all our lives. In order to walk effectively, make sure you walk fast enough to elevate your heart rate. The problem with walking for outdoor exercise is that it is too easy to fall into the trap where you are walking at a strolling pace, which is way too slow. Gesundheit

Outdoor exercise can be fun, too. Downhill and cross country skiing are both forms of outdoor exercise and things you can do in the winter. The thing is, some people find them so fun they do not even realize they are even doing any outdoor exercise. A lot of people end up at least slightly depressed in the winter. By getting some outdoor exercise, it helps elevate your mood. Too many people spend their winter cooped up inside. Uebungen

So, if you want to get some exercise, consider outdoor exercise. It is fun and for the most part safe. But with any form of physical activity, you should consult your doctor first.

Web printing is a high speed process that results in slight shifts in the registration of the inks used and alignment of colors or registration. Use Night Vision Goggles Today

    June 30th, 2009

Technology has already gone its way to develop such devices to make a task as easy as it could be. Similar to the ordinary goggles that individuals use; who could have thought that in the years to come night vision goggles would be developed for home and business purposes.

This revolutionized equipment created in the 1900’s has proved very helpful to a lot of people and businesses for it has the more advanced capabilities to enable the users to fully utilize its functions.

Night vision goggles are truly ideal for fishing, peering in low light and for security purposes. Night Vision Goggles might even be used by ordinary people to protect their family from any intruder in the dark. Occasionally, unexpected thieves just break into a residence while the residents are asleep. Without the thieves knowledge, the family in the house is able to see what is going on and they can manipulate the situation to be able to trap the thieves.

Government and police groups also benefit from the night vision goggles especially if they are working in low light. This device is incredibly important since it will reach a vision of possibly more then 60 meters length field.

Night vision goggles are additionally terribly needed for night hunters. One will be able to turn on the night vision goggles and look through the hunting grounds and not bothering the animals making the hunting much easier to be accomplished.

Nighttime fishers can also be another party to enjoy such devices since many ocean animals are even harder to catch without light as they are very sensitive to the moving of the water and they can sense if someone’s up for them.

Via night vision goggles, many of jobs are being completed in a short period of time leading to a more productive life.

    The FishingTackle I Prefer

    June 29th, 2009

When I go carp fishing I know it is not cheap to purchase the permit to let me to fish at one of the best carp ponds. It is understandable really as some of these fish cost over a few hundred pounds to stock in the first place.
Consequently if and when I do manage to get a take I need to feel assured that the fishing gear I am using is up to the business of landing one of these powerful underwater missiles. I do not wish to be packing up thinking if only I had!

So I opt for a Greys carp rod it has everything I am looking for in a light yet strong carp rod. It has never let me down yet and made to last .If you go down the path of purchasing the cheapest you can you will only end up discovering it fail under pressure and probably when you have a monster on. Besides with the cheaper fishing rods they do incline to be a lot heavier and at first this might not be too much to think about but as the day wears on your arms will begin to notice it.

I will match that with a Fox Carp Reel can not be beat in my view. Fantastic gearing and a truly smooth action when you require to really crank up the force as the carp is steering for weeds this is the one for you it genuinely does come into its own.

With the correct fishing line and correct sharp hooks all my equipment is flawless for the job at hand .So basically it is down to me no excuses if the fish gets off it is my mistake no one else’s.I tend to buy virtually all of my fishing gear here at the Cheapest Total Fishing Gear Site as I have found the prices to be one of the cheapest around and with free next day delivery

0800 Numbers: Providing more than just a no cost call

    June 29th, 2009

Nearly everyone knows that phoning an 0800 number from a landline will cost them absolutely nothing. That is the beauty of 0800 numbers. They actually encourage people to call them because there is no barrier between them and the organisation that is using them.

That’s why 0800 numbers make good marketing phone numbers. If an organisation wants to attract enquiries all they need to do is promote their 0800 freephone number in an advert or on their website and they can watch the calls flood in. In fact, research by the Institute of Direct Marketing has stated that using an 0800 number can increase enquiries by up to 185%.

So, if a company was generating £5,000 in a typical month with their normal landline - they could actually make an incredible £14,250 if they used an 0800 phone number.

    But that’s not all…

Like all non-geographic phone numbers, 0800 numbers enable organisations to smarten up the way they deal with their callers with various online call management systems. For example, welcome messages are popular because they introduce callers to the company that they are dialling e.g. “Welcome to Windsor Telecom”. Not only does this create a professional impression but it also encourages more people to stay on the line as they are certain that they have dialled the correct person or company.

Additionally (and this is one of the key reasons that all non-geographic numbers are so popular), 0800 numbers are completely portable. They simply work in tandem with a company’s landline or mobile number and can literally follow them wherever they go. This receiving number can change instantly too which means that if someone wanted to take some of the calls to their 0800 number on their mobile on one day and some on their landline, then they could do this simply by going online and tapping in the new receiving number. This ensures that all calls are received which could equal more sales for businesses, more enquiries for councils and more donations for charities, for example.

A portable number is also invaluable if a company needs to relocate. They simply change the receiving number to their new landline number or to their mobile to ensure that their existing customers can always get hold of them - wherever they are.

As this article shows, 0800 numbers offer more than just a free phone call and if people are smart they can find a 0800 numbers provider with the most memorable numbers on the market at the most competitive prices.

    Physician Job Search Tips

    June 29th, 2009

    1) Defining purpose. What you are looking for in a position? Some items to consider are: environment (rural, suburban or urban), practice set-up (group, partnership, employee, etc.), compensation plan for physician employment and rotation.

    2) Preparation. Practice! Practice! Practice! Do your homework before interviewing. Anticipate possible questions concerning physician practice opportunities and write answers for each.

    3) Punctuality. Not just on time, but a little early for each site and telephone interview.

    4) Appearance. Arrive at the interview with a neat and clean appearance. Avoid being overly made-up. Dress conservatively and comfortably.

    5) Body language. Eye contact is essential. If shaking hands, offer a firm handshake. Erect posture shows confidence. Sit down only after being offered a chair.

    6) Portfolio. Plan ahead. Bring copies of necessary information (CV and references). A legal notebook for taking notes is always recommended. Formulate a list of questions to help you evaluate the opportunity.

    7) Enthusiasm. Bring an absolutely positive attitude without being too familiar. Negativism is not allowed. Sell yourself. The difference between bragging and self confidence is enthusiasm.

    8) Smile. A genuine heart warming smile can win over anyone…whether you interview for physician jobs or not.

    9) Thank you. At the end of each interview, thank the interviewer for their time. Follow up with a thank you note highlighting various points discussed during the visit.

    10) Use a professional recruiter. Have a professional recruiter handle the search process for you. The task can be overwhelming to organize and maintain.

Don’t Miss Bonita Springs on Your Next Southwest Florida Vacation

    June 29th, 2009

Warmed by the sparkling waters of the gulf, cooled by lovely breezes, and kissed by radiant sunshine, visitors are pretty much guaranteed a perfect Florida vacation on the sparkling Gulf Coast of Florida.

If you have kids you want want to miss the excitement in Orlando. That’s where you’ll be enjoying the sights and sounds of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and Discovery Cove. Then head on over to the Tampa Bay to check out the wonders of Busch Gardens.

Kennedy Space Center should not to be missed either. For anyone who is interested in the planets, and man’s attempt to reach out through space travel, this is the place to see. Plan on spending as much time as you can. The displays and information are extremely well presented and you will need to do it justice without rushing.

Once you have the tourist high points out of the way, now is the time to explore the real Florida. The Florida that stars Mother Nature in all her glory.

One of the towns to explore and enjoy is Bonita Springs. Just drive south along the gorgeous Gulf Coast down I-75 a bit past Fort Myers.

Called Gateway to the Gulf, Bonita Springs boasts white sugar sand beaches that will delight every member of your family. If you forgot your pails and shovels, just head to the the nearest souvenir shop and make your selection.

Bonita Springs was first called Survey and was prominent back when local plantations grew bananas, coconuts and pineapples. When word got out that the area was also great for hunting and fishing, thousands more visitors started flocking in.

The name Bonita Springs refers to a local spring found along Highway 41. According to the natives of the area, the waters of this spring had special healing powers. Just about the time the Tamiami Trail was completed the name of the town was changed from Survey to Bonita Springs to give it more tourist appeal. Sure enough the town began to prosper as droves of people headed to the area from up north.

Attractions in the area include outstanding fishing, shell collecting, beautiful beaches, and of course the gorgeous weather. And if you are a golfer the Bonita Springs area has many outstanding golf courses, many of which have been designed by tour players and famous golf architects.

You’ll probably not want to leave Bonita Springs’ sunny skies, and warm hospitality. But when you do, you’ll have many great memories of your southwest Florida vacation to share with everyone back home.

Tips on how to choose a Hammock

    June 28th, 2009

Most everyone loves the idea of relaxing in their backyard or campsite on a hammock.  But selecting the correct hammock for your use can be a bit challenging.  Hammocks come in a wide variety of sizes, types and materials which are suited for different uses.  For example, the material could be cotton, polyester or canvas.  While the cotton hammock is most suited for indoor use and occasional outdoor use, the polyester hammock will stand up to almost any weather conditions with no problem.  The cotton rope hammock is generally the most popular although the rope does not wear well over time if exposed to the constant outdoor environment.  From personal use, I’ve always found the polyester hammocks can be bit warm during hot summer days.  The rope hammocks allow a soft breeze to flow over your entire body.

Another consideration is the amount of space you have to dedicate to your new hammock.  If planning for use on a deck or patio, you might consider the new hammock chairs or swings.  Although the hammock chairs are not as comfortable as the standard rope hammocks, they offer the ease of hanging from a single rope and take up much less space.  All true hammock chairs are made to be hung from an overhead support.  Many times a porch roof beam or overhang will do the job.   But as popularity has grown, some manufacturers have created stand-alone hanging systems which enable you to move your hammock chair into more open areas. They are also much more stable and might be a good option for use by children or the elderly.

If your deck is large enough, you might consider using a full size hammock installed in a hammock stand.  Hammock stands might be made of wood or steel.  The wood hammock stands offer a great durable and classy option and contributes to the overall appearance of your hammock.  The drawback as you might expect is generally the wood hammock stand are a bit more expensive.  It is easy to find package deals which includes hammock and stand.  This of course makes the selection process a bit easier.

How to Shop for Your Bridal Party Gifts

    June 28th, 2009

What is the most important aspect of buying bridal party gifts for your wedding party? There are certainly many factors involved. Namely what type of wedding party people you are asking to be standing next to you on the aisle. Each of them, whether they are man or woman, has their own personalities. Their own likes and dislikes and all this figures prominently into your decision.

At first, you might want to rush out and buy the first gift you see at the mall. I would advise against that. You see, this is your wedding day we are talking about here. One of the most important days and times of your life. You certainly do not want to be haphazard about your shopping at this point. These gifts will be proudly displayed by your wedding party for years to come. You want them to be lasting memories of their involvement to your wedding.

One of the best ways to do this is to personalize the gift itself. There are many companies which allow you to choose a gift and then engrave nearly anything you desire on it. Let say you bought a beer mug as best man gifts or groomsmen gifts to be passed out to your Best Man, groomsmen and ushers. You would then engrave either the date of the wedding and their names or some type of nicknames. So the next time they pour a cold drink, they will think of you. And that is what wedding gifts on your big day should be all about.

    Seattle WA Photographer

    June 26th, 2009

It’s not easy finding someone to create images for you or your family when there are so many potential options. On your search for a photographers in seattle you might want to consider some of the following factors… Does their work seem professional? Have they shot the type of images that you desire? Do they have their own studio or are they talented in finding venues that stimulate the imagination and bring out the qualities you would most like to show to your viewers?

Because there are so many people out there that call themselves “photographers” it can be extremely overwhelming figuring out who is the best for the job… Generally it is a good idea to obtain personal recommendations from friends and family members if possible and always make sure to have a nice long phone conversation with the service provider before committing to them. The same rules would apply if you were to search for a seattle real estate agent or a plastic surgeon to make sure you don’t receive awful plastic surgery! It’s a good idea to feel the photographer out and make sure they have a passion for their job… In addition try to see if they are specialized and lean towards a professional that has a large portfolio of work that you would like to imitate.

The type of gear used can also be important so figure out if they typically shoot with film or digital and inquire as to how they distribute prints/cd’s… Do you have to pay for each print or are they willing to burn you a cd and let you obtain your own prints after the shoot? Are they going to charge on an hourly basis or per concept/look or do they have some other sort of fee system and schedule? Some people are willing to trade in order to enhance their portfolios so you might luck out…
