Small Garden Grown Your Own vegetables By The Square Foot

September 30th, 2009

By using the principles of Square Foot Gardening it is possible to reduce by 80% the area required to grow the same vegetables using the standard row method. One of the aims of intensive gardening is to reduce the space between plants. To ensure you understand your garden and learn about plants you should keep a square foot garden diary to have a log of your failures and successes to improve your results.

The practice of square foot gardening is not just for those with small back yards; rather square footgardening allows you to concentrate your work effort to create an ideal plant environment, to give better natural yields.

The are many people who like the idea of digging for victory. They enjoy the sight of long, straight rows in their gardens and the hard labour that goes with digging and hoeing the land, whilst others like machine cultivation.

Owning a square foot garden still means weeding by hand but because the raised bed is filled with peat, compost and vermiculite there are fewer weeds and they can easily be seen and removed in a few minutes.

If you like the idea of all your vegetables being ready to harvest in one go then square foot gardens are not for you. The idea of square foot gardens is to have something growing all the time so you can have fresh vegetables growing in your garden for most of the year.

To benefit you need to have a good square foot garden plan which requires to be thought out early in the year, thorough planning to make the best use of your time and space. Before you start planting, you must consider the interrelationships of plants with each other and their needs and how to protect them from bugs and insects.

Square foot gardening is based on 1.2m by 1.2m raised beds. If you have more space then the length of the bed can be increased to 12 foot. The width should not be more that 4ft so that you can easily reach the middle with out standing on the soil.

What Are The Advantages Of Buying A Metal Swing Set Compared With A Wooden Swing Set?

September 30th, 2009

When you are deciding about a swing set for your recreational area, there are various factors to keep in mind|remember}. Durability, cost, and safety are the most imperative. Buyers can usually choose between wood, metal, and plastic swing sets. Plastic is the safest, but it is only suitable for very young kids, and doesn’t weather well. Wood is now and then thought to be more beautiful, but comes with a hefty price tag. The familiar metal swing set, on the other hand, scores agreeably on all 3 fronts, as long as you are careful.

Metal swing sets are judged by many to be the most durable option on the marketplace. Although, it is crucial to pay for a quality set, built from galvanized steel that won’t corrode. Regular steel that has just been painted to slow down corrosion will worsen when the paint layer is scratched. Sets that do not feature galvanized steel are also frequently of lower build. There are a number of different styles and sizes of metal swing set. A number of them include slides, monkey bars, and other fun toys, whilst other models have only basic swings.

Of late, wooden swing sets have gotten a lot more accepted. These back yard arrangements present the possibility for children to play close to their own homes, safely, and for parents to keep an eye on them. They are in addition visually nice-looking, tough, and enjoyable. At the same time as previous sets were somewhat dangerous, new additions to wooden swing sets and play accessories, such as plastic slides, coated chains, and well finished wood that helps children stay away from splinters makes a wooden swing set a practical alternative. Though, there are lots of models on the market, and deciding can be complicated. There is more to selecting a wooden swing set than merely buying the first design that looks good.

My First Mini Dell Experience

September 30th, 2009

Having been amongst the first to purchase the Dell 910 Mini I wanted to share my experience with others that might be thinking about acquiring this item or one of the other sub-notebook or ‘netbooks’ as they have become known. I manage a web design agency and I’ve been contemplating the idea of getting a more modern laptop as my old Dell Inspiron from 2003 is as heavy as a brick.

Shortly after having retired the old Dell to my girlfriends house (I couldn’t face lugging it back and forwards any longer so it just lives there now, I might well do the same with myself one of these days soon!) it stopped charging and wouldn’t run from the mains, so eventually when I gave it to my tech to repair he found out that it was one of the known faulty models, the 5150 which developed a problem with the motherboard overheating after prolonged use, this I found out about 2 years after they stopped replacing them as part of a class action lawsuit, shame I’m two years too late to get it replaced for free!

Ah well what’s 150 quid for a factory refurbished Motherboard off ebay, compared with years of loyal service in spite of being dropped a couple of times, spat on repeatedly, eaten over and all manner of other not recommended usage styles! I even used to have it hooked up to my TV via the onboard S-VHS port and watch films on it, so it has seen some action, oh yes!

However, this was all inspired by my step dad who just took delivery of top of the range Toshiba Portege at around £1,200, but he’s at that time in life where 1,200 quid is affordable, where as I’m still in financial recovery from my last divorce (yes there was more than one!)! So I happened across an ad for the Dell Inspiron 910 Mini on the Dell website whilst looking at specs of notebooks for a customer, and there it was £299 inc VAT and delivery. What a bargain I thought!

Anyway there I was flexible friend at the ready, wrist twitching ready to make a purchase, but wait a minute I thought, why am I buying this, do I really need it? No, I don’t NEED it I just HAVE TO HAVE ONE! So then some sensibility came over me and I put my credit card away, feeling all pleased with myself at having managed to resist an impulse purchase!

However, the next day my step Dad needs me to take a look at his new machine because he can’t get the music software to work with Vista and can’t get it to see the other machines on our network (this job for me, comes with the territory!) So I have to genuinely work on this ultra lightweight Toshiba , wow I’m amazed at how light it is, especially compared to my old Dell 5150! I wish I could afford one of these I thought! I noticed he didn’t have my recommended security software installed though.I set him up with my usual computer security protection: Avast Anti Virus and Spybot Search & Destroy, both free for home use.

The next day I had to go to a client’s and as it was first thing in the morning I went straight from my girlfriends house and took the old laptop with me (which gives me a great excuse to call in on my way back and drop it off, coincidentally around about lunchtime when there might be the chance of a ham, cheese and salad sandwich on the go! Yum, she is soooo good to me!) So anyway, I about put my back out trying to put this incredibly heavy laptop in the car passenger foot well whilst sitting in the drivers’ seat! One of those ‘put your back out’ manoeuvres. So having experienced the new lightweight machines first hand, and realised I do have a genuine requirement for the new Dell Inspiron mini after all, weighing in at around 1kg, you know I planned to get that credit card out again as soon as I was able!

So as I had a management meeting that afternoon I informed my Finance Manager I would be ordering one and that was that. It was Friday October 3rd when I placed the order on the Dell website, and on the 8th I got back from a customer meeting to find a small cardboard box on my desk with the Dell log on the side, I thought it couldn’t possibly be the new mini as the confirmation email I got said it would arrive on or around the 20th October, but sure enough it really had arrived!

So I’m like a kid in a sweet shop thinking “best day ever” (See Heroes Season 3), I was ecstatic and carefully unpacked it, tossing instructions and disks to one side of course, “read those later” I thought. I got it out and started setting it up straight away, you know remove McAfee Security Centre and all the other junk software these things come with these days. Why they can’t just send you a blank windows installation I don’t know, more advertising!

As it has an integrated web cam I also downloaded Windows Live Messenger and had a short video call with my fiancée whilst she was doing her house work, fantastic! So next I Googled ‘mobile broadband suppliers’ and toyed with ordering the USB dongle from Three, as their 5GB monthly allowance is only 15 quid a month so the best looking deal, providing those coverage stories you hear about Three Mobile are not really the case! (Update: Yes the coverage is lousy in all the areas I want to use it, even at my desk I have to connect the dongle to a USB cable and hang it from my roof to get 1 bar signal strength, ridiculous buy another brand!)

Anyway, it was soon time to go and get my daughter from school so I thought yeah I’ll take it with me and even though I don’t have the mobile broadband dongle yet I can continue configuring it in car park if I’m early. I was early, so I turned it on, it said:

Windows could not start because of an error in the software.

Please report this problem as :

load needed DLLs for kernel.

Please contact your support person to report this problem

As we say in England from the popular Catherine Tate sketch “Computer says no…”

Ah dear, it was great fun whilst it lasted, all of about 2 and a half minutes! Then followed a 2 and a half hour telethon with Dell support in India :-( Apparently they were so quick to ship it to me that my service tag isn’t on their system yet.

I couldn’t understand why they simply refused to send me a replacement until they could look the service tag up! I was so annoyed with them, you could maybe understand if it was something complicated, for example server virtualization but it’s just brand new Dell 910 mini laptop which won’t boot up, ridiculous!)

They suggested I called back in 24-48 hours, well I told them exactly what I thought of their suggestion as I’m sure you can image, but to no avail. I did indeed have to call back today and they have agreed to send me a replacement unit as it is within 7 days of delivery.

I hope the replacement arrives as quickly as the original unit did…

So conclusion? Apart from the fact it doesn’t work (a faulty drive in my opinion) and for the life of me I can’t get it to boot from an external drive or USB key (it doesn’t have a CD or DVD drive you know) it feels really solid, looks lovely, and is nice to handle (sounds a bit like the ideal partner to an i-phone 2.0 doesn’t it!).

Like most reviewers have experienced, the keys are small (but blackberry users manage and they are larger than those keys) and the right shift key is tiny and means you can’t type an @ in the usual fashion. But the screen is nice, 3 USB slots, a monitor connector, Ethernet and earphones and mic connectors although it has both speakers and mic internally so you can Live Messenger without having to plug anything in.

On the whole, I would recommend it, providing you get one that boots up! I am also yet to try it with LogMeIn which is my preferred way of dealing with how to access emails, lots of passwords, specialist software and all that kind of thing when you are out and about. Possibly the screen is going to be too small to be able to work with for extended periods of time, but I’ll let you know when the replacement arrives and I have had chance to give it a proper testing, assuming that one doesn’t break on me as soon as I start urm ‘configuring’ it!

Further Update: So I have had the Dell Mini for about erm, wow nearly a year now! It would never work with LogMeIn over the Three dongle. To be fair Three were very helpful, until we took the dongle out and successfully used it in another one of my machines and were able to connect on LogMeIn without any problems, at this point they referred me to Dell, at which point I lost interest!

It is all to do with one of the browser settings, not remembering itself when you select the check box and hit Apply. I can’t remember which one it was now, and maybe ie 8 will have fixed the problem or it might work on Firefox browser instead, I just never got round to trying to sort it out again and tend to use the Mini more now to read the news in bed with my cup of tea in the morning.

It is too small to use for really extended periods but it is great for checking your email when you’re out and about, or for a quick impulse surf when you’re watching tv and you want to remind yourself what other films that actor or actress was in!The subject of data security is dealt with by a trial version of McAfee, but that is not one of my favourite programs o I swapped it out for Avast.

It’s a cracking little machine though and also works quite well down the pub, because I can actually fit it in the pocket of my big coat, and that is proper cool, except it doesn’t like beer puddles much so I tend to avoid taking it most of the time, unless I know I’m going to need to log on, but then the pub has got a sexy new Mac which is already covered in beer so I prefer to use that (any excuse to get behind the bar really!)What is so magical about being able to go behind the bar at your local anyway? I suspect if I actually worked there it would soon wear off!

In summary though it has not had any hardware reliability issues since the initial replacement was received. On the whole I have found that Dell kit tends to be pretty reliable anyway, especially when you are dealing with the more business based items whereas this is obviously more consumer oriented. With a Dell or most new PC’s if they are going to breakdown they will usually do so within the first six months of use and generally after that they will keep going until recommended service intervals such as changing the disks after a couple of years and that kind of thing.

It should be pointed out though that these mini Dell laptops/netbooks, call them what you will, do not having a regular hard disk drive inside them. A normal hard drive has a disk inside it that physically spins round and a ‘head’ which moves backwards and forwards over the sectors quite like the relationship between the stylus and the tracks on an old fashion vinyl record !

The hard drives within the Dell mini, and other netbooks too I should image, are solid state, that is to say they are rather like USB flash drives or memory keys. In fact I think from a picture I saw they look more like RAM memory chips all joined together than a single physical device. The advantage of using solid state memory over traditional hard drives is that they use less power, they are not as heavy and they are quieter.

My Dell Mini is blissfully quiet in comparison to any of my other computers, desktops or laptops. Although if you are auditorily hyper-sensitive to sound like I am then you can notice a very slight hum or whine when you request a program that requires it to access the hard drive. Most people probably will never hear this but if you are familiar with the faint hum from your mobile phone charger or other devices of that ilk that transform power from one state to another then you might know what I am talking about. It certainly isn’t a problem though, although the power adapter for the machine itself does make some odd noises if you listen to it closely.

My favourite aspect of this machine is that in some it elicits the same response as having a small puppy or kitten out and about with you, especially down the pub where if you get it out to a bunch of girls you can hear the ooh and ahhh’s of girls who think something is cute! That is priceless!

Sadly, this then has a knock-on effect and therefore makes your personal finance situation worse than before.

Although, thanks to credit cards for bad credit and secured credit cards, getting accepted for a 0 apr credit card even with a bad credit score is now made possible.

You could apply either over the internet or in the more normal manner of sending off an application via the mail delivery process. Usually it will take anywhere from a few days to a week for the issuer to decide your creditworthiness. Having said that, provided your credit history is not totally damaged you ought to be triumphant in your application for your 0 credit cards.

What Canoe Accessories to Buy

September 30th, 2009

You’ve finally decided to find a hobby that lets you get back to nature, and you’ve bought a canoe. No doubt you made a wonderful choice based on your own wants and needs. But now you’re wondering if perhaps a canoe is all you need to buy. After all, you see so many items for sale in the canoe section of the sports store. Are they worth purchasing? What do they do?

An anchor can be a useful accessory for you to purchase. You may sometimes want to park your canoe in the middle of a quiet lake and float for a bit to rest or admire the scenery, but you don’t want water currents to sweep you up or the wind to be continually blowing you over to the shore. Anchors weigh between five and ten pounds and their quality is similar from brand to brand. What you want to look for is that the part that secures your anchor to your canoe is of good quality.

Chairs to add onto your canoe are a personal choice. Most canoes come with sections to sit on, but many people find these flat boards uncomfortable. Most chairs are simply little more than a cushion that can be tied onto the already-existing section for sitting that your canoe has, but some of the fancier chairs come with a back. Chairs are wonderful devices for people who have a hard time sitting on something hard and flat or for those with back problems.

For keeping water out of your canoe, a bilge pump is usually much more useful. Bilge pumps are simple pumps that hook up to the inside of the canoe. By pumping manually, you can suck up the water that sits inside the canoe and spray it back out of your watercraft. Some bilge pumps have a motor available which cuts the task down in manual labor.

The last kind of most commonly-available accessory is motors. Motors help propel the boat, so that you aren’t required to paddle. Many people enjoy buying motors for their canoe to save their arm strength for fishing. Others use their canoe for whitewater rafting, and motors would be absolutely useless while trying to navigate rapids.

As always, choosing to purchase an accessory depends mainly on your own needs and wants. Many people buy nothing for their canoes save a set of paddles and are perfectly satisfied with that. If, however, you’d like a few things to make your life a little easier, then getting a few accessories for your canoe is a must.

What is Assisted Living?

September 29th, 2009

There comes a point in many of our lives when doing daily chores becomes too much to handle on our own. This doesn’t mean that we are unable to take care of ourselves; it simply means that daily living tasks are more then we can handle. There are a number of reasons people get to this point. It can be due to age or health condition. When an individual is still able to care for their self and they want to maintain a certain amount of independence, they turn to an assisted living facility.

Assisted living facilities are the bridge between living independently in your own residence and a nursing home. Many individuals in assisted living facilities are no longer capable of living on their own and they are not completely dependent either. Assisted living facilities are staffed with medical personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Typically there is a charge nurse for a certain amount of tenants and there are also medical assistants and/or nursing assistants. Tenant’s doctors also come and make their rounds, much as they would in a hospital or a nursing home.

The staff is there to make sure each tenant receives their medications as prescribed. They are also there to help with tasks such as housekeeping, laundry, getting dressed/changing clothes, bathing and eating. The amount of care each person receives varies greatly and is determined on an individual basis. The goal is really to help make sure that each tenant is getting all the care they need on a daily basis so that they are able to enjoy life.

It is important to note that in most cases the medical care that is given is not as intensive as it would be in a nursing home. There are times that residence of an assisted living care, when due to illness, surgery or injury may have to go to a nursing home until they are stable enough to return to the assisted living facility.

One should also note that assisted living facilities can go by different names depending on where they are located. Some common names are residential care, adult congregate living care, supported care, enhanced Care, and community based retirement facilities just to name a few.

How To Find Cheap Airline Tickets On The Web

September 29th, 2009

If you want to go somewhere and are not too picky about where you have to go, a good way to get dirt cheap airline tickets is to bid for them on Ebay.  Travel agents, who have to get specially Trust E certified just to put up listings on Ebay, often list cheap airline tickets to various hot spots around the USA and around the world on Ebay.

You can save lots of money this way if you bid for and win the cheap airline tickets, up to 40% to 50% off the published price.  Some tickets are specific, like today I see one from NY to London in business class for $2398.  That is a super deal since often these tickets cost 2x that much.  Since it is business class and not a super saver coach fare, there is no set date you need to go and can book at any time.

Other tickets have more restrictions but are still good deals and the restrictions, like a Saturday stay, or booking through Orbitz, are  not overly burdensome.  One I saw was for anywhere in 50 states of the USA on United Airlines with 5 months to complete travel.  That is not a tiny window at all.

One caveat often is that exchanges or date changes are not allowed, so make sure you are willing to lose your ticket should something come up.

Ebay has trips to popular places like Las Vegas, Hawaii, Mexico and Europe.  It also has very cheap international flights and packages to more exotic places like Chile.

Top 3 Tips on Buying Used Televisions

September 29th, 2009

Many individuals elect to purchase used televisions. By making this decision, one may save a tremendous amount of money. Unfortunately, the technology that surrounds accessories such as DVD players, video game systems, and even digital converters often requires a television to have certain components. Many used televisions do not include these components. In this guide, you will learn the top 3 tips on buying used televisions.

1. The first consideration that should be made when buying used televisions is whether or not the TV is compatible with the new digital signal technology. At the very minimum, the unit needs to have the capability of being attached to a digital converter box or a digital cable box. If it does not, the money that you invest in the unit will be wasted as it will not be able to pick up the old analog signal anymore.

2. When purchasing used televisions, it is important to pay special attention to the input jacks. Many older units fail to incorporate the standard RCA jacks that are on newer systems. Since these types of jacks are used to connect accessories such as video game systems, DVD players, and those similar in nature.

3. When purchasing a used TV, it is important to determine if the system comes with a remote control or not and if the manufacturer still makes remote controls for the unit. Many will come with this accessory, but if the item malfunctions and the manufacturer no longer sell the controls, it may be challenging to find a replacement.

If you are interested in used televisions, there are several points to consider prior to making a purchase. First, you should ensure that it is compatible with the new digital signal technology. You should also ensure that it has RCA jacks and a remote control. By taking the time to make certain of these points of interest, you can rest assured that your investment will prove to be beneficial to you.

What Can You Do About A Vaginal Yeast Infection?

September 28th, 2009

Vaginal yeast infections are caused by overgrowth of Candida albicans type of yeast found in the vagina. This organism is normally found in small quantities in the vagina, mouth, digestive tract and skin. Women of all ages can get yeast infections. Throughout life, 75% of all women who could have at least one vaginal yeast infection and up to 45% have two or more.

Vaginal yeast infections may be confused with other conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, other infectious vaginitis and trichomoniasis. Of these three conditions, trichomoniasis is the only one for a sexually transmitted disease.

Women tend to be more prone to vaginal yeast infections if their bodies are under stress due to poor diet, illness, lack of sleep and when you take antibiotics or medicines, corticosteroids. Other common triggers include pregnancy, diabetes, steroids, birth control pills, pH balance, and obesity.

Vaginal yeast infections can also occur as a result of internal vaginal injury, such as after chemotherapy. Also, women with suppressed immune systems (such as those taking cortisone-related medicines such as prednisone) develop vaginal yeast infections (yeast vaginitis) more often than women with normal immunity.

Symptoms of vaginal yeast infection include redness, burning, itching and irritation of the vaginal area. Swelling of the vulva may be present in serious cases, swelling and painful urination and may be more frequent. Sometimes there is a yellow-green frothy vaginal discharge, which may have a bad odor, but not always.

Vaginal yeast infections are common and easily treated in most women, but became more and more difficult to treat in women with HIV. Treatments for yeast infections include prescription and over-the-counter medications. Pills, taken orally, requiring a prescription. Length of treatment varies depending on the vaginal medication you use. Single-day treatments are stronger and more comfortable.

If you are pregnant, do not use antifungal medication pills that you take by mouth.

Migraine Headache Treatment and Your Options

September 28th, 2009

There are several ways to handle the treatment of migraine headaches. The treatments are divided into two categories, one being to relieve the pain and the other as a preventative measure. When a migraine headache first starts the use of pain relievers is considered acute or abortive treatments. The medications for the purpose of preventing migraines are to cut down on recurring headaches and to lessen the intensity when you do get one. A professional should be your first point of contact if your having any signs of ocular migraines or menstrual migraine.

Your doctor will decide which is the best treatment for your migraine headaches. Usually when your migraines are not severe the treatment will be to use an anti-inflammatory drug which is as simple as any product with aspirin. Treatment can be a combined aspirin, caffeine and acetaminophen to get the best results. Usually taking an aspirin and then laying in a room that is dark for an hour should ease the pain of a moderate migraine but it may not help the pain of a severe migraine headache. Always get with your personal physician if your have any signs or symptoms of migraine relief.

If your choice is to use an aspirin based product, you are in good company. Around the world every year over 80 billion aspirin tablets are taken for the relief of pain which includes migraines. Generic aspirin which is acetylsalicylic acid is found in many products.

Headache pain is usually connected to chemicals. When there is a headache there are hormones that are being over productive that are sending signals of pain. Any anti-inflammatory properties will reduce the levels of prostaglandin in the body. Taking an aspirin product means the properties of the medicine will course through the body but will only work on those areas were prostaglandin is actively present. The signals of pain that have been sent to the brain will be stopped.

Using aspirin a couple times a week is perfectly safe but taking it more often may cause something called a rebound headache caused by the overuse of the medication. When migraine headaches are repeating often or are becoming more rigorous it is time to discuss this with your doctor for any other kinds of appropriate treatment options.

*Always consult your doctors for any medical condition*

Making Captial on Real Estate in Depreciating States

September 28th, 2009

In the instance the location is flat you will have to know up front that acquiring a investment for wholesale real estate investing will take some understanding. You won’t want to have to restrict yourself to obtaining a home that you will need to live in. For example, that means you buy a home and dwell in it until you turn it. In such an area you will need to get an edge on your competitors. You will not be able to sell it for more than what the area supports. This is why you need to buy at a large discount to make a reasonable profit if you are doing this traditionally.

In this case buyers will start by doing research on prices in the current markets. With the immediate real estate locations and the amount of motivated sellers, wholesalers who are flipping real estate are profiting very well. No matter what you plan on doing, everything aside, you have to decide whether the money you made against the level of risk that it took getting the home successfully wholesaled. This is why easier low risk strategies like real estate wholesaling are recommended.

Of course be sure to educate yourself about assigning properties and/or talk with a knowledgeable expert before you plan any new investment business and finance endeavors.

The Aquamog CCX-238 Making a New Channel Through a Thick Cattail Zone

September 28th, 2009

This press release features the Aquamog CCX in action. The aquatic rig is perfect for making channels or removing excess cattail growth from shorelines. This is by far the fastest and most efficient Aquamog when it comes to only emergent aquatic weeds and cattail control. Where other Aquamogs need to more than one tools to do the same work, the Aquamog ccx just digs right in to make new open water.

The Aquamog CCX with its 2 independent cutter blades in the front of the barge can uproot cattails to a depth of 3 feet. The blades propel the machine as well as do the root removal work. Getting rid ofthe roots can cut down on re-growth in the area.

When the roots are removed they remain on the surface of the water and are than easily collected and removed from the pond using an aquatic weed harvester. The harvester transports the vegetation to the shore for final placement and/or off site land fill.

Cattails are a beneficial plant that have alot functions in lakes. They provide filtering of nutrients and some heavy metals from the water, as well as provide habitat and shelter for birds and other wildlife.

But, if not properly maintained they can quickly turn into a large water weed problems that can be very difficult and expensive to handle. Thus the Aquamog CCX was invented.

The Aquamog was created in the early 80s by Aquatics Unlimited (AU). The McNabb family formed AU in the 70’s. Both Tom and Dave McNabb created the Aquamog name and line of equipment through the 80’s and 90s while with AU. Tom continued the Aquamog line into the new century with the addition of the MarshMog. Tom’s new company Clean Lakes, Inc. (www.cleanlake.com) located in Martinez, CA and Dave’s company DK Environmental (www.dkenvironmental.com) in Lafayette, CA have been working together on the Aquamog CCX project for about 10 years and in February 2009 the Aquamog CCX 238 was introduced into the “Mog” line.

It’s Possible To Find Your Favorite TV Cartoon Characters In Southern California

September 28th, 2009

I have been to several of the world-class theme parks in Southern California lately. One thing I found is that you can enter into the world of many favorite animated cartoon characters if you enjoy that sort of thing.

We know where to find Mickey Mouse and all his Disney friends-in Anaheim. The Disneyland Resort is a popular vacation destination for a lot of reasons and you’ll want the insight of locals to plan the best trip. Who doesn’t love the wonderful job Disney has done in creating a fictional universe of lovable characters?

A few miles down the road at Knott’s Berry Farm you’ll find all the Peanuts gang at Camp Snoopy. Charlie Brown, Linus and the others fit  nicely into the personality of Knott’s Berry Farm.

Your next stop would be Universal Studios Hollywood and the many TV and movie stars such as Betty Boop, the Hulk, Batman and Spiderman, joined most recently by Homer Simpson and his wonderful family. You can find some good details about Universal Studios Hollywood from the SoCal Vacation Guru.

Lastly, we drive up north a ways and stop at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The Six Flags roller coasters seem to be the biggest draw to the park for most visitors. As soon as you get inside, you realize that the place is run by the Looney Tunes characters from the Warner Brothers cartoons.

You will find Yosemite Sam, Daffy Duck, Sylvester and the Roadrunner, some of whom hang out with the guests. To provide additional fun for small children, there is an area set aside for them, with a strong emphasis on the characters (not everybody wants to just hit the roller coasters). The characters are very charming and are pretty easy to find around the mountain.

Martin’s Boavista or Jacqueline Gold’s Marbella

September 28th, 2009

I’ve been recently reading the autobiography by Jacqueline Gold, the CEO of Ann Summers stores who has had a roller coaster of a personal life and specifically can relate to various aspects of her life’s struggle as well as constant enthusiasm for living and never giving up.

I specifically recall from within the autobiography Jacqueline’s attachment to marbella costa del sol as she writes many times about how her friends and Jacqueline make an annual pilgrimage to marbella costa del sol for her girlie week in the sun. They book into a good hotel as a gang of them and do all the girlie stuff for a week and let their hair down, clearly also shopping is part of the trip too.

She mentions about a couple of times where when she’s down, Marbella is a good place to get away to and recover your energy and zest for life. Getting away to a different location always enables a fresh view of things to form as well as give new focus to emerse yourself in. Of course - for sun worshippers the thrill of chilling and tanning is always a pick me up.

This is where the story of Jacqueline particularly seem’s apt for me at the moment as I am looking for new adventures in life, to immerse oneself in solving worldly issuses or participate in a good cause where it puts our own life in perspective and how we can get the most out of our precious time on earh.

Anyhow, I digress…. here I am thinking about Jacqueline Gold and how she faces tragedy or setbacks in life and always has Marbella !! and I’m thinking Marbella’s ok, I’ve enjoyed myself their a few times already and I’m also part of an expanding holiday business who handles a lot of reservations for Marbella holidays, but its not what is going to cheer me up at this point,,… where else is there within easy travelling of the UK and somewhere I can be fully involved in something useful and possibly even environmental? I glimpsed at Mijas along Costa Del Sol - but lets look away from Spain… How about the Canaries ? Nope - a little further I think, Marakesh…. no, …

Then it hit me, Cape Verde! I’ve been looking to possibly invest in somewhere upcoming like Cape Verde - and then, like a higher power was controlling my mouse - I clicked on a link in Google for “Boa Vista Experience” and then into their forum to read what the English folk were talking about and their was an announcement that The Turtle Foundation were looking for Volunteers to help protect female Loggerhead turtles who were being slaughtered by poachers as they were coming ashore to lay their eggs for future turtles to grace our oceans !!! Eurika ! that was the moment I knew that I’d found what I needed to gain a clear perspective and rejuvenate my enthusiasm :-)

Thankfully, my application as a volunteer to help The Turtle Foundation on Boavista was accepted, and I’m due to fly out for a whole new adventure and life experience for 7 weeks in Cape Verde on the 3rd August as the Turtle laying season just heats up and there’s reports coming in of masacred Turtles on some of Boavistas paradise beaches.. Check out my facebook updates in TURTLE FOUNDATION - Cabo Verde group page on Facebook and I’ll also be covering it in my main blog.
