The Cocos Islands

October 31st, 2009

Stick a pin in a globe through the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, and it emerges almost exactly through the Cocos in Costa Rica.

Discovered in 1609, these islands were settled and owned by a single family from 1827 until the Australian Government forcibly acquired them in 1978 for a payment of over $6 million.

Lying 2,770 km (1,732 ml) northwest of Perth, the 27 coral islands are formed into two large, heavily vegetated atolls. Not only are they the only atolls that Darwin ever visited, but the coral ecosystem remains intact and you can still see in their pristine condition exactly why they played such an important part in his theory of evolution.

North Keeling, set apart from the other islands, isn’t even inhabited; but you can see extreme rarities like the Cocos buff-banded rail, robber land crabs, and both green and hawksbill turtles among other wonders, under its protection as Pulu Keeling National Park, covering both North Keeling and its surrounding waters.

The 600 or so Cocos (Keeling) islanders live on Home and West Islands, both given over to copra and coconut plantations that only add to their tropical glamour. There is no tourist industry at all. Instead, there are facilities for visitors, sponsored by islanders who take an almost personal interest in everyone who comes.

If you happen to be there, you’re genuinely welcome to participate in the school fete, sports day, or concert night; and you’d be unwise not to join in quiz night at the Cocos Club, or not to watch the annual Ardmona Cup Aussie Rules football match. The tradition of hospitality is both Australian and Malay, representing the origins of the tight-knit community.

The islanders, as much as the islands themselves, have retained a form of unpolluted innocence, and share a mutual respect that visitors immediately respond to. These islands are a dreamscape worthy of Gauguin.

Plan for a budget holiday

October 31st, 2009

Holidaymakers spend literally hours trawling the Internet looking for cheaper travel, airport parking and accommodation in a bid to bring down the price of their holiday. Whilst the Internet has undoubtedly played a massive part in connecting suppliers direct to their customers meaning holidaymakers can organise their own holiday which is more often than not less expensive than a package deal. Before even setting the ball rolling you first need to establish some guidelines of when to travel. For instance if flying from the UK the price of your Manchester airport parking for example will change during the year as will the price of your flight.

Trying to avoid having an expensive vacation, unfortunately most people respond to giveaway deals advertised in papers or travel agents shop windows and can end up with a cheap holiday but unfortunately. If you are a sun worshipper there is little value in going on vacation to the Costa Brava in autumn or winter when the temperatures are only early 60’s but this may well suit travellers looking for a walking vacation. Select what you want from your holiday and then select the destination after looking at climate and time of the year. The same applies with your airport parking Heathrow, for instance, many companies advertise incredibly cheap prices but you must be certain the car parks are approved by the safer Park Mark scheme or your vehicle might end up in a field or a shopping center car park for all you know.

Outside of the main season hotels in this country and abroad still have the same fixed costs to meet and this is when low prices will be at there best. If your needing a stop over before your flight it is cheaper to book for example Birmingham airport hotel parking rather than purchase your airport parking and hotel independently. Whilst flight providers will withdraw some flights and routes through the winter they still operate a core staffing level and will have fleet costs to meet and will tempt holidaymakers with cut price deals.

Five Things to Look For in Credit Repair Services

October 31st, 2009

If you are in the market for credit repair services, you need to know up front the minimum services you should expect. In general, most people don’t know what should be expected from a credit repair company, and for this reason they cannot determine which will be the best choice of credit repair services they can get. A good and reputable agency will provide a lot of worthwhile services, but here are five important points to watch for:

1.Fees - less-than-reputable agencies will ask for all the money up front. And why is this? Because they know  they can’t do what they claim they can do and they don’t want to wait until you find out. A trustworthy company will ask for their fees as services are rendered, in a pattern that asks for payment for an initial consultation or credit analysis and subsequent monthly payments.

The charges must be proportionate to the services. Ensure that you research the market closely both at the regional and national level what is reasonable.

2.Making sure your credit report is correct - the good credit repair services include correspondence with the 3 major credit bureaus, Equifax. until all errors on your credit report have been taken off.

3.Educate you in financial self sufficiency - your relationship with the agency will be temporary. This is a good reason to learn all you can about being self sufficient financially. Most good credit repair services will help educate you in how to handle your finances, once you no longer need their help. The company will guide you on the way until you learn about how to monitor the entries by obtaining free credit reports at regular intervals from the three credit bureaus, how to contest wrong entries, and most importantly council you on how to manage your money so you can remain credit worthy.

4.Customized approach - a lot of agencies will utilize credit repair software in providing your services. However, this by itself is not enough. Each case is special and very rarely can be typeset to a pre-determined computerized service. The best credit repair services well attend to the specifics of you as an individual, irregardless of how useful such software can be.

5.Always stay within the law - the trustworthy credit repair services will never consider using means that aren’t legal. If you have the least suspicion the agency is acting otherwise, run the other way!

Even though you may feel that improvement in your credit score is urgent, or change your credit history to leave out items such as repossessions, bankruptcies, collections, and so on - you must understand that this cannot always happen.  Companies that make outlandish promises might be using illegal tactics, and if you go along with them, you become an accomplice. This is something you should avoid at all cost.

will likely provide additional services as well as those we’ve enumerated but definitely should include these 5 points, A good way to chose an agency is through word-of-mouth recommendation from someone close you know.

Alternatively ask the company for references. It’s also important to check with the “watchdog” of credit repair companies, the Ethical Credit Repair Alliance. Never be afraid to ask questions and insist on references, until you are comfortable with the choice you are about to make!

How to find good soccer drills for kids

October 31st, 2009

As most soccer coaches know, it is hard to keep soccer practices interesting and full of new drills.  It is important to do this becuase kids need to be mentally stimulated by new things.  Practicing the same old soccer drills will lead to an un-interesting practice with dis-interested kids. When you think your practices are becoming dull and you are looking for new ideas, there are several things you can do.

First of all, consult with other soccer coaches.  Most soccer coaches love to share ideas about strategy and practice drills. You would be suprised at how willing other coaches are to share their ideas.

Invite another coach or former player to run practice.  A completely fresh drill will sometimes be just the boost kids need.  It also provides you with a fresh set of eyes that can help you see a new perspective on what the team needs to work on.  It is like painting.  When you paint a picture, you think it looks the best after you take a break from looking at it for a while.  When you come back, your fresh eyes perceive it much different.

These days one of the best resources is the internet.  Videos and coaching drills are all over the internet.  You don’t have to be a soccer coach either.  You can find ideas on hockey drills, football drills, basketball drills, and pretty much any sport.  Make sure to get specific in your search too.  Typing in Soccer Drills will yield a lot of results.  Try Soccer Conditioning Drills, or Soccer Passing Drills to get more specific. The same goes for video searches, the more specific the better.

A good advice to get your pet healthy is via giving it the proper physical activities and diet. Another symptom of congestive heart failure is the canne being easily tired even after light exercise so consult the vet in relation to the proper activities the animal can join in.

Homemade meals for dogs are usually healthier than the commercial pet food that are available in the market. This is especially so if your canine has an ailment that needs special attention given in its specific nutritional value. Boneless lean meat and grains are beneficial ingredients to incorporate in Fido’s meals. Mix the meat into vegetables like squash, cucumber, carrots, zucchini, beets, broccoli and yams into his food. Keep away from vegetables that might lead to digestive problems like beans, tomatoes and bell peppers.

Chop these into bite-size pieces that the animal can easily chew. Your dog’s meals should always be low in sodium and high in other nutrients like calcium - which is said to reduce the heart rate and assist in the capacity of the heart to pump blood better. Other vital nutrients include Taurine and L-carnitine, Coenzyme Q 10 or CoQ 10, Vitamin E and Omega-3 fatty acids (seafood is a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids).

The appropriate nutrients make a difference in improving your pet’s cardiovascular well-being as most of the above mentioned minerals are credited to prolonging the life span of dogs with heart conditions. An alternative natural supplement good for your dog is the herb Crateagus oxycantha or Hawthorne which contain properties that support artery strength and general cardiac health. How to Select a Feline Breed

October 30th, 2009

The very first choice you need to ponder is whether or not to adopt a mixed-breed cat, like one from a shelter or someone you know, or adopt one that is purebred. In today’s world forty cat breeds are official by the national and international cat associations now. A few potential owners believe they want to buy a purebred kitten or cat. They have set aside the money (typically $100 to $1000 for the rarer breeds), and know that one or two cats are exactly what they are looking for.

Take a peaceful home; you may want a calmer cat. Good choices here would be Himalayan or Persian cats. Someone else might want a more spunky cat. One that could play with the solar powered garden lights. Then the Abysinnian or Siamese would be the cat of choice. It’s wonderful that you can almost predict what sort of temperament the cat will have when you opt for a purebred.

The majority simply go down to the nearest shelter and select a cat, and take it home, not really worried about how it’s going to act, it’s build or nature. Most of the cats in America and yes across the planet are adopted with little or no money like that. This means that globally, purebred cats are in the minority. Not all pets are like this. It is totally different from dogs. One third to one half of all dogs are purebred. One more interesting thing to notice is that dogs vary dramatically in size from breed to breed, but cats are just about the same size in any of breeds.

Sure, you’re going to get a cat, and it’s OK if you get a mixed-breed or a purebred, what criteria should you use to choose them? Ethically, let’s ponder this question through.

Consider this fact that cats are put to sleep by shelters each week because there are too many of them than there are potential owners willing to give the cat new homes. Think about this tragedy, caused by the ignorance and irresponsibility of today’s cat owners who don’t neuter their pet. The point here is that there are many cats and kittens in shelters right now who will be put to sleep this week if they aren’t adopted. Shelter cats are not less intelligent that their purebred buddies, and probably just as healthy - if not more so. They get out there and jump on your www.solar-yardlights.com, too! And above all, they’ll be just as cuddly and fun to care for.

So can you really choose a purebred cat knowing that so many common breeds are badly needing adoption? The number of purebred cats sold annually is a fraction of the amount of mixed breeds euthanized during the same time period. Purebreds will easily find a home and aren’t in jeopardy of losing their lives just because there are less of them.

OK, your turn…a decision that’s hard to make. Realistically, the thoughtful new kitty owner should not be so concerned about this dilemma. It goes back to the cat owner who if responsible the population explosion problem would soon be solved. Enough about the drama, you probably want to know what are their differences?

Cost is huge, know that the cost of the cat can affect your choice. Mixed breeds are practically free most of the time. If you’ve had a litter you know, the owner is probably thankful you took the kitten off of their hands. However it’s different if you go to a shelter, so realize that there is a $25 to $50 fee to cover the neutering and vaccines. Better yet, they will give you a lot of advice on the cat. Overall it is a pretty good deal.

Purebreds are different. A bundle of energy, they’ll still snag your solar landscape lights, but you get what you pay for with them and the more unique, the cost is more. Registered cats cost even more. Take the American shorthaired kitten, which might sell for $200, whereas the Sphynx could run as much as $2000. Don’t forget checkups and annual vaccines. You’ll need food and litter as well. And the trip to the Vet to neuter, that can run around $75. A few of the many certain unavoidable costs involved with owning your new cat.

Bonded Diamonds

October 30th, 2009

Before you start shopping for diamonds, consider dealing with a bonded jeweler. Bonded jewelers sell bonded diamonds, and there are very few bonded jewelers in the world. In fact, out of all of the jeweler’s in the world, only about 5% of them are bonded. Buying a bonded diamond will cost more than buying a non-bonded diamond, but when you look at what you get with the bonded option, you will see that it is well worth the extra expense.

First, bonded diamonds have a buy back policy for the life of the diamond. No matter how long you have had the diamond, you can take it back to the bonded jeweler and sell it back to him or her, for a 100% refund. If a jeweler does not offer a 100% buy back guarantee, for the life of the diamond, then you should take a closer look at the diamond to see what is wrong with it.

Bonded diamonds also have a breakage policy. If the stone breaks or chips, the bonded jeweler will replace it with a new one - one time. No jeweler would ever offer such a policy on any stone that was not 100% natural, so just the offer of such a policy should give you piece of mind concerning the quality of the diamond. Bonded diamonds are natural and untreated.

Bonded diamonds increase in value, with a fixed appreciation rate that is designed to keep up with inflation. This means that a diamond that is worth a certain amount of money today will be worth more in the future, as the price of diamonds continues to rise. This generally does not apply to buy backs, however. It typically applies to trade-ins.

Alternately, by purchasing a bonded diamond, you are protected against the possibility of a market crash. If a market crash occurs, the value of diamonds will drop. However, the bonded jeweler guarantees to refund you the difference between what the diamond is now worth and what you paid for it before the market crash.

It may be difficult to find a bonded jeweler in your area, but if you can, this is who you want to deal with, as opposed to dealing with an un-bonded jeweler. Specifically tell the jeweler that you are only interested in bonded diamonds. By comparing jewelley prices on line You can find a bonded jeweler in your area or by calling the local jewellery stores.

Car Doesn’t Shine Enough? Time For Chrome

October 29th, 2009

As we all know, the United States experienced a spectacular Baby Boom. It paralleled a growing economy and a desire to enjoy the good life after years of worry and tight wallets.

A robust car industry got to ride the strong economy. Like a tsunami, car makers ramped up to meet the demands of post-war consumers and a broadening middle class. As the number of new drivers increased, competition for their business picked up. Technology and style teamed together to feed the demand for new designs - a sign of new tastes and the consumer’s desire for status.

Chrome, chrome and more chrome marked the cars of the 1950s. Chrome showed up in grills that the blind could see coming, bold tail-fins as well as chrome center caps and hubs, consumers couldn’t seem to get enough of the sun-reflecting metal. The more, the better.

Today’s car accessory fanatics are drawn to the lustrous metal with the same intensity. And who can blame them? Chrome resists corrosion, is able to be tinted and gosh darn it, is just visually appealing - kinda like diamonds, icicles and twinkle lights… only more manly.

Everything from tailpipes to roll-bars to running boards can be electroplated with unalloyed chromium. Center caps for rims and designer rims are popular ways to upgrade the fashion statement of your vehicle, too.

This chrome plating can be applied at various thicknesses, so when making a decision check the specs to get an estimate of the resistance to wear you can expect. If it’s not listed, ask the dealer. Even better is to contact the manufacturer. It’s always a good idea to do your research prior to making a purchase. “Rim Remorse” is not a good feeling - especially after spending a week or two of paychecks.

With the help available on the web, you can look up parts by Hollander number or the parts number (SKU) issued by the part maker. You also can take advantage of locator services to find the chrome grill, chrome tail pipes, wheel center caps (chrome, of course) or any other chrome accessory that can take your car from stock to stoked!

Income Tax Return Forms

October 27th, 2009

What are income tax returns? Each spring is income tax return time. We have gotten used to filing our taxes, paying them, and getting our tax refund, but somehow the term “tax return” is not always clearly understood.

The story begins in January through March of every year when workers receive their wage and tax withholding print out from their employers. Those in school will receive statements of tuition, scholarship, and aid information covering the previous year. An income tax return form is then used to take the amount earned and figure out the correct dollar amount of taxes for which the individual is liable.

Although a person filing the forms detailing earnings, deductible expenses, and taxes may have some or all of their withheld taxes returned to them, that is not what is meant by the term “income tax return”. Actually, what “tax return” refers to is three parted. First, you are letting the government know, or are returning a report on, how much you made in the previous year. Next you are stating how much you have paid in taxes, so far. And then, entered on the appropriate line is the total income taxes  that you owe.

So in going through this tax return process many people show that they have overpaid their income tax and therefore have a refund coming. The alternative is of course, that there was not enough money withheld, or that the quarterly payments fell short of estimates and now a payment is owed.

In summary, the phrase “income tax return” is referring to the document that you fill out and send to the IRS and to your state tax department.

Top 5 Restaurant Tips For Losing Weight

October 26th, 2009

Let’s face it: restaurant food, as a rule, is not weight loss friendly. Here are five great tips to use when going out to eat so you can still eat good without feeling deprived.

1. No bread at the table. When your server comes to the table for the first time, ask him to remove the bread from the table (if there’s already some there). If the bread customarily gets brought later, ask the server not to bring it at all. Bread adds loads of calories that you could “spend” on your entree.

2. Immediate portion control. When your food arrives, immediately cut the portion in half and ask your server for a to-go box. Set the box aside, out of sight if possible (many restaurants can give you a bag that you can put your food in and set out of the way).

3. Pass on the soda. Did you know that a typical 16 oz serving of soda is 200 to 250 calories? Ouch! You could apply all of those calories to some great food. Order water instead. Or bring a bottle of zero-calorie flavored water if you can’t handle plain water.

4. Plan your order in advance. Look up the nutritional information of the restaurant’s dishes before you go out to eat. Pick something that’s good but reasonably healthy. Think about ordering that item. Focus on it. When the menus get passed around, hand it back to the server and order what you’ve already planned.

5. Fresh fruit for desert. If you’re at a restaurant that offers it, choose fresh fruit for your desert. It’s sweet and good, but is very healthy.
