I’ve Got A Few Summer Travel Ideas

February 03rd, 2010

I’ve been thinking about where I could go with a lot of vacation attractions, but will be sensitive to my tight budget. I might suggest you consider a SoCal vacation. There you will find theme parks, beaches, great weather and a lot more.

Hawaii would be another option. You can almost feel that warm ocean water right now, but remember that there are offsetting advantages to the Golden State. You might want to read this article by the SoCal Vacation Guru, where California vacations and Hawaiian vacations are compared. Keep in mind that there are way fewer underwater rocks to worry about in the California surf, and the humidity and sun intensity are a little easier to handle in the summer. You’ll find the ocean water to be warmer in the Aloha State, but the cooler California water might actually seem more inviting on a hot summer day.

Hawaii does have an advantage with such beautiful natural countryside and vegetation, enhanced by the local Polynesian culture. But don’t forget the melting pot of many different cultures to be experienced in California, as well as the mountains, desert and coastline.

The beach is not the only attraction in Southern California. There are a half-dozen major theme parks to be visited. You could spend a week checking out the seven top-notch theme parks between San Diego and Los Angeles County. You will find world-class thrill rides at Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain; the Six Flags roller coasters are particularly plentiful. Those parks both boast many coasters and similar adrenaline-pumping rides. Disneyland has a few attractions that would be considered thrill rides, but not nearly as many as those other two parks.

You won’t find many roller coasters in Hawaii, although surfing on the North Shore of Oahu in winter would qualify as a thrill ride. It may be that California offers more ways to trim the budget, but sometimes there are great Hawaii vacation packages to be found on the internet or in the newspaper Travel section.
