The Life Enhancing Properties of Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamin supplements have enjoyed some positive publicity over the last decade or so, but despite what some people say, they are not a magic pill. However, it is really tempting to view them as just that. Anything that’s as easy to take as a vitamin supplement that can help turn back time, look more radiant, help protect against serious conditions like cancer and heart disease, boost your immune system, battle against viruses and colds, help you handle anxiety attack and boost your energy certainly sounds moderately miraculous or magical.
Fairly recently, when people first began talking about the restorative potential of vitamin supplements, lots of people were going crazy for bottled nutrients and were eager to find out if they might be included in a liver detox program. As it turned out, so did health writers and even some physicians. For some time, the rumor was that megadoses of vitamins could cure anything. Swallow enough vitamin pills to make you rattle, and presto! Perfect health was just round the corner.
Well, that bubble burst soon enough. As we soon discovered, vitamins and minerals, no matter how good they are, simply aren’t a cure-all. They can however play a vital role in helping protect health. A lot of clinical studies just recently are generating interest in this vital subject once again. Some of the things that scientists have discovered regarding the life enhancing powers of these nutrients will blow your mind.
Lets look at one study in particular, out of the many, about the impact of vitamins. Scientists in the UK monitored 200 people working in the manufacturing industry in Britain. As part of the research, they gave one group a typical multivitamin/mineral supplement and another group a look-alike pill that did not contain nutrients. At the end of eight weeks, researchers concluded that the vitamin supplements brought about a significant improvement in quality of life.
The control group (those taking the placebo) felt no different than at the beginning of the study. Researchers concluded that the supplements appeared to play a role in improving the managers’ moods and reducing their stress levels. And all because they simply gave their bodies extra vitamins and minerals each day… with all those clinical trials to confirm their conclusions.
As more and more rigorous scientific studies accumulate showing spectacular health benefits from vitamins and minerals, especially when used to support a natural detox diets, we’re back at the good old days again: eager to take advantage of all of this healing potential - yet totally overwhelmed with the mass of mis-information on the subject. While the reasons for taking vitamins and minerals are now backed up by clinical trials, cutting through the sales hype when buying supplements can be hard work.
