Vinyl Siding: When the Appearance is not Aimed to Deceive

March 26th, 2009

You can cover the outside walls of your house with vinyl siding, a flexible material. A good protector for the exterior of your home can be make from polyvinyl chloride which is engineered to be a barrier against heat, cold and moisture. Vinyl siding is also highly unlikely to be damaged by denting or high winds.

Vinyl siding is a great investment. Re-siding a home is among the top ten remodeling projects in terms of overall payback. Vinyl siding is maintenance free! Couldn’t we all use a few extra ours during our day? Beautify the outside of your home with siding, it has many options, great flexibility and an endless amount of choices.

Repainting will cost less than adding vinyl to your floors.  Is the cost worth the end result?  Here are some considerations.

If you have to repaint every four years, how much will you spend over the next 15-20 years?  That’s a reasonable lifespan for a quality certified vinyl siding job.

What can be the amount of time saved in maintenance if you do not have to scrape, paint or replace rotting boards?  The ease of cleaning and maintaining vinyl siding is as simple as spraying with a garden hose and using a mild detergent.

If the construction is durable, the vinyl siding will resist any dent or damage against hail or rough weather.

Choose from a wide variety of colors, textures and styles to create the look and feel you want.

What Should You Look For?

If you can find certification by the Vinyl Siding Institute, then you know you are getting a quality product.  The industry boasts a special standard called VSI certification which ensures the siding meets or exceeds preset conditions.

Let us know what your options are?

Gauge

The weather resistance and the impact is better if the panel is thicker. As the panels are thick, they will hang straighter and will be flat against walls to give a better apperance. Look for the correct gauge size which is more inexpensive.

Grain

Using smooth grains it is possible to achieve a more contemporary or traditional look. If you wish to achieve a more rustic look, use more pronounced grains. You could also consider log siding or stone siding for your exterior siding as an option.

Profiles

How about a more conventional style such as clapboard? A dutchlap panel? Have you ever heard of a vinyl siding called dutchlap panel? What about a beaded panel and its old-fashioned look?  Look over the different profiles that are available, and see how these can change the look of your home.

Color Selection

These days you can choose home siding from a variety of vinyl siding colors which go right through the PVC and not just on the surface. This means that if your siding gets scratched or knocked, it won’t easily show. Choose from a wide variety of colors, that vinyl siding will hold better and longer than paint.
